If you need proof that spots are a fact of life, just remember that dermatologists - people who literally study skin for 12 years and know everything you could ever know about the epidermis - get breakouts too.

That third eye on your forehead doesn't seem so bad now, does it...

Dr Justine Kluk is my go-to consultant dermatologist. She specialises in acne and is therefore my first port of call for anything from the best cleanser to use, to whether I should try Jennifer Lopez's trick of using constipation medication as a primer.

Yes, really...

Despite my constant questioning, Dr Kluk is still schooling me on the daily and today, thanks to Instagram, I learnt her dermatologist approved spot covering makeup routine.

If, like me, you've ever wondered how to cover those erupting volcanoes, without clogging your pores, Dr Kluk's answer lies in three key products.

"This morning’s base makeup consists of a lightweight layer of Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation which is so buttery and soft that it feels like it melts into the skin," she began.

Side note - Dr Kluk isn't the only fan of this base. Kourtney Kardashian also swears by it due to its salicylic acid ingredient list and anti-inflammatory/microbial properties, which help control acne.

After foundation, Dr Kluk moves onto her concealer of choice. "Next bareMinerals BarePro tapped onto any blemishes (yes, even Dermatologists get spots sometimes). Tapping rather than rubbing ensures you don’t keep wiping your coverage away. "

Lastly to set it all, she follows up with a loose powder. "I then pat my bareMinerals Mineral Veil over any spots that I’ve concealed, using plenty of product to set it. Finally, I dust a thin layer of the same product over my whole face which removes any excess powder."

Explaining the importance of her makeup routine, Dr Kluk said, "Having good coverage that doesn’t clog my pores has allowed me to get up and face the day on many occasions over the years when my acne started to play up and make me feel self conscious."

We could not agree more.
