Our Dementia Choir will be returning with an affecting Christmas special, which will feature Vicky McClure revisiting the choir to see how they have coped during the pandemic.

The Line of Duty star fronted the heartwarming two-part documentary, which followed the actress as she set out to discover the power of music in fighting dementia by putting together a choir of musicians and singers comprised of people with the disease.

Vicky has personal experience with dementia after she helped her mum to care for her grandmother, who died from the disease in 2015.

The special, which will air on the 16th December, will feature Vicky catching up with the choir, and a special performance for choir member Mick, who is working through his bucket list, which includes singing on stage one last time while he still can.

To help Mick achieve his goal, Vicky secretly arranges an opportunity for him to perform at the London Coliseum, with none other than her Line of Duty co-star Adrian Dunbar.

Get your hankies at the ready for this emotional climax.

Vicky shared a clip of her Christmas party with the choir from last year to celebrate its upcoming return over the festive period.

"This is footage from our Christmas party last year," the star wrote. "Sadly this won’t be possible this year but it’s a lovely memory to revisit! We have managed to catch up with some of our choir members and see how this year has been for them and we have a very special performance for you too, @markdelisser has been working his magic once again. I’ve even roped in the Gaffer!"

Speaking previously about her grandmother's illness, and how it inspired the moving documentary, Vicky explained: 'My mum would sing and grandmother would spark up. You'd get a glimmer of hope.

"Obviously it's extremely sad [to have dementia] in my family but the Dementia Choir was emotional because I could see the choir doing those incredible things. Music can change your mood," she added. "I've had loads of brain scans. The results are outstanding."

The choir has also be a part of a three-year study into how much music affects people living with the condition.

Our Dementia Choir at Christmas airs on BBC One on Wednesday, 16th December at 7:30pm.
