Masks, gloves and hand sanitiser can now be ordered on Deliveroo

Deliveroo has become a staple during a cosy night in, with many reaching for the app to satisfy their pizza fix or curry craving.
You may be surprised to learn, however, the food delivery service could one day be a go-to for first aid.

Deliveroo has joined up with Lloyds Pharmacy to drop off more than 50 medical supplies, ranging from plasters and Calpol to diarrhoea relief and panty liners.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, customers can also order personal protective equipment like masks, hand sanitiser and gloves via Deliveroo’s app.
The service will be available this week across 16 pharmacies from Southampton to Edinburgh. It will then be rolled-out to a further 24 stores across the UK.
“Pharmacy plays a pivotal role in not only offering prescriptions and advice to patients, but in also providing over the counter medicine for minor ailments, helping to alleviate pressure on the NHS,” said Toby Anderson, CEO of LloydsPharmacy.
“Over the past few weeks we have taken a number of steps to review and alter our in-store and online operations to ensure that customers can continue to access essential medicines and healthcare products safely and conveniently.
“This partnership with Deliveroo marks a step change in the evolution of pharmacy and illustrates our commitment to continue delivering first-class healthcare services to our customers.”

Customers can order Lloyds Pharmacy’s best-selling products, which include hay fever nasal sprays, throat lozenges and rehydration sachets.
The over-the-counter treatments will then be at their door in as little as half an hour, it claims.
LloydsPharmacy already offers a next day click and collect or delivery service via its website.
The partnership allows customers who are self-isolating as a result of the coronavirus to quickly access non-emergency, non-prescription treatments.
“At Deliveroo, we are doing everything we can to make sure that people get the food and health products they need and want during this unprecedented time,” said Ajay Lakhwani, vice president of new business.
“We are pleased to partner with Lloyds Pharmacy and deliver a new range of over-the-counter medicines to our customers.
“This will be particularly important for the elderly and those who are self-isolating at home.”

Government guidelines state anyone who has the coronavirus’ tell-tale symptoms – fever, cough, or loss of taste or smell – must self-isolate entirely at home for seven days, not even venturing out to buy essentials.
Other members of their household must do the same for two weeks.
People over 70 are considered clinically vulnerable, while those with certain medical conditions are “extremely” so.
These individuals are advised to be particularly cautious, however, restrictions will relax on 6 July in England.
