Although it has been rumoured for some time that Ralph & Russo are the designers behind Meghan Markle's wedding dress, David Emanuel's presence in Windsor yesterday has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works.

The designer – who was responsible, along with his then wife Elizabeth, for creating Princess Diana's wedding gown when she married Prince Charles in 1981 – was spotted by photographers outside a pub in Windsor yesterday.

It would be the ultimate nod to Harry's mother if Markle were to choose either David or Elizabeth Emanuel to design her wedding gown, however their former designs are a far cry from the actress' usual style. Gowns by the brand were known for their volume and drama, which is quite different to the usual pared-back yet polished aesthetic that Markle opts for.

Emanuel has actually spoken about the type of dress he would design for Markle, which suggests that he probably isn't the man behind the design. Speaking on a Fox TV special about the royal wedding, he described the route he would go down.

"What would I put Meghan in? Something sleek and clean, quite bodied with a long train, and I’d put her in a clinging silk crepe," he said. "But, you know, she can’t be the sex bomb on her wedding day. She can look smouldering and wonderful, but it’s got to be regal."

What is also possible is that Emanuel has stayed close to the royal family after designing the famous dress over 30 years ago, meaning he could be in town as a guest. Alternatively, the designer might be there for a news channel to talk about the fashion on the big day. Thankfully, we only have to wait one more day to find out.
