Dashcam shows uninsured driver dodge through traffic before head-on crash after 80mph police chase

This is the dramatic moment an uninsured driver led police on an 80 mph chase through narrow streets before crashing and attempting to flee the scene.

Callum Taylor, 20, sped off after officers spotted his silver Peugeot and tried to carry out a routine stop in Rugby, Warwickshire, on 13 March.

Footage from the patrol car shows Taylor dart through a red light and drive on the other side of the road as he desperately tried to outrun officers.

During the 10-minute chase through residential streets, Taylor hit speeds of 80mph and narrowly avoided hitting dozens of motorists who swerved to avoid being hit.

He finally crashed head-on with another vehicle as he tried to force his way through a one-way road across a bridge.

Footage shows him leap out of the car and attempt to flee on foot, before being arrested a short distance away.

Taylor, of no fixed address, admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

He was jailed for 14 months at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday and banned from driving for three-and-a-half years.

PC Chris Batchelder, of Warwickshire Police, said: “Despite some close misses, fortunately, nobody was injured in this pursuit.

“I hope the fact Taylor received a prison sentence sends a clear message that if you put other road users and the public in danger you will be punished.”
