Danny Miller is set to return to Emmerdale as part of the soap opera's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! winner is best known for playing Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap since 2008, the son of Chastity Dingle.

Emmerdale producer Jane Hudson confirmed at a press event announcing the anniversary plans: "Aaron's back and how is he going to respond when he finds out that his mum is cheating on Paddy, who he sees as a father?

"Is he going to discover that Sandra is not all about Liv? There's a huge story happening over there."

Amy Walsh who plays Tracy Metcalfe and Elizabeth Estensen, who has played Diane Sugden since 1999, will also be returning to the village to be part of dramatic scenes airing in October, to mark 50 years of the soap on ITV.

Producer Kate Brooks said: "They'll come back and be at the heart of some really big stories that'll impact their lives, and not just their lives but the lives of the characters they leave behind. It's all really exciting and brilliant."

It has been revealed that the 50th anniversary storylines will all centre around a huge storm, which will destroy parts of the Yorkshire Dales village and endanger the residents - pushing them to the brink.

Brooks said: “As part of our big fiftieth week, we will focus on a massive storm that’s going to rip through the village and leave a trail of huge destruction.

“Some of our best loved villagers will be in peril and the village will never be the same again after this.

“The impact this storm has on people’s lives is massive.”

She added: “There are elements of the storm that I’ve not seen on a soap before and it’s very exciting and nerve-wracking to be part of that.”

Emmerdale launched in 1972 on ITV as Emmerdale Farm, airing at 1.30pm twice a week for a 13 week run, as a series depicting rural life.

Due to it's popularity it kept being extended and eventually moved to a primetime slot in 1977.

The name of the soap opera was changed to simply Emmerdale in 1989 and it now airs five nights a week at 7.30pm on ITV1.

Aaron Dingle left the village following the death of his partner Ben Tucker in December 2021. He has an extremely troubled history having been sexually abused by his father, struggling to come to terms with his own sexuality as a teenager and had a toxic relationship with ex-husband Robert Sugden, who was imprisoned for murder.

Miller, 31, was crowned the winner of ITV reality show I'm A Celebrity in 2021 after pipping fellow soap actor Coronation Street star Simon Gregson in the public vote.

The soap star initially struggled to overcome his fear in some of the gruelling trials in the show, and kept being voted by the public to take part in more.

Joking about how he had come across on screen Miller said: "The original idea was to show them that I don't just cry on television but I think I've failed.
