Daniel Dubois has been taken to hospital for assessment after his shock defeat by Joe Joyce on Saturday night.

The much-hyped heavyweight prospect suffered the first loss of his professional career in a memorable all-British contest at Church House in Westminster, with Joyce starring with his jab and conditioning to force his opponent to take a knee in round 10.

The impact of Joyce’s stinging and consistent jab led to a lot of damage developing over the left eye of Dubois, causing him obvious discomfort and ultimately obscuring his vision to such an extent that he felt he could no longer continue as he took the referee’s full 10 count.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital after the fight for assessment on that eye injury.

“He caught me with a good jab - I couldn't see out of the eye. It just happens," Dubois told BT Sport afterwards.

"I couldn't see out of it - I was trying my best.

"I've been hit harder, but it was where I was positioned and he hit me on the eye.”
