Daniel Craig's Glass Onion becomes one of Netflix's biggest film debuts

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has pulled in substantial viewing figures since landing on Netflix, becoming the site's sixth-biggest film debut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rian Johnson's film was watched for 82.1 million hours in the first three days since its streaming release on December 23.

While the figures are impressive, it's not enough to break into Netflix's top five movie debuts – sitting behind Sandra Bullock’s The Unforgivable (85.86 million hours).

In fourth place is The Gray Man at 88.55 million hours, followed by The Adam Project (92.43 million hours) and Don’t Look Up (111.03 million hours). Topping the list is Red Notice with 148.72 million viewing hours.

Glass Onion sees Daniel Craig reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc, who is tasked with solving a murder mystery after a body washes up on the luscious private island of a wealthy tech entrepreneur.

Craig stars alongside Edward Norton, who plays wealthy entrepreneur Miles Bron, Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista. Several celebrities also make cameo appearances in the film, including Hugh Grant, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Angela Lansbury, Natasha Lyonne and Serena Williams.

Meanwhile, Johnson recently revealed that he wished the name Knives Out wasn't included in the film's title.

Speaking to The Atlantic, Johnson explained that he hadn't intended for Glass Onion to be considered a sequel to the 2019 mystery film.

"I’ve tried hard to make them self-contained," he said. "Honestly, I’m pissed off that we have A Knives Out Mystery in the title. You know? I want it to just be called Glass Onion."

Knives Out is available to rent or buy on DVD, Blu-ray or as a digital download – and its sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is streaming now on Netflix.
