Dancing On Ice’s Stef Reid was declared an “inspiration” by viewers after she pulled off the first headbanger of the series.

The Paralympic athlete – who lost her right lower leg and foot in a boating accident when she was 15 – performed the tricky spin on Sunday night’s instalment of the ITV show and said she was “really proud” of herself.

The stunt, which saw Reid being spun round by her partner Andy Buchanan with her head just inches from the ice, was particularly tough because it usually involves the man holding the woman’s right leg.

However, as Reid has a prosthetic the pair had to adapt the trick and use her left leg.

“I really enjoyed it and I am really proud that we managed to do it,” the star told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield after the performance.

Willoughby admitted that she hadn’t been able to watch the nail-biting move, but had just asked Schofield how it was going.

Judges Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse were all blown away and each gave the pair a nine out of 10.

Mabuse said the skate was “flirty” and “sassy”, while Torvill praised Reid and Buchanan, saying: “You invented a new version of the headbanger, so well done!”

Viewers were also impressed.

“The FIRST Headbanger of the SERIES was amazing,” said one on Twitter.

Another posted: “So much admiration for @RunJumpStefReid for doing the headbanger and generally not letting anything stop her.”

“Wow I loved this, brave lady @RunJumpStefReid to do the headbanger & in the very safe hands of @AndyBuchananTV,” tweeted one. “Fabulous dance.”
