Dan Whiston believes there are five potential frontrunners for the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice.

Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor, Strictly's Brendan Cole, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, and S Club 7's Rachel Stevens are among the celebrity contestants for this year's ice-skating competition, which kicks off on ITV on Sunday.

Associate Creative Director Whiston has been overseeing their training and he believes there are five frontrunners at the moment rather than just one.

"What's great about this year is that we've got a number of people that are all frontrunners so we've probably got about five or six people that are standout fantastic at this stage," he exclusively told Cover Media. "Normally, we'd be looking at the show and looking at everyone like, 'Oh, well they're definitely the frontrunner at the moment, they're doing really well, they're standing out from the rest.'

"What's wonderful about this year, we haven't got that, we've got a group of people fighting for it (the frontrunner title), I would say five or six people are up there, which is amazing. It's very difficult to say who's at the top of the pack at the moment, there isn't a top (one), there's a top five, I'd say."

Whiston, who originally joined the show as a professional skater when it began in 2006, declined to reveal which celebrities made up the top five. However, he teased that Olympic BMX star Kye Whyte could be this year's underdog contestant.

"I feel like we've got a bit of underdog this year, I think someone's going to come out of the blue and storm it," he shared. "He's working so hard and they're creating some wonderful stuff so I think he could be a bit of an underdog, someone to watch out for."

Whiston is the Associate Creative Director of Dancing on Ice, which is back on our screens from Sunday 16 January.
