Daisy Ridley fiercely poses with wolves in epic photo shoot for Vogue

It makes perfect sense that a Star Wars scavenger with the Force would feel comfortable among wolves. But wolves next to chic clothing in the pages of Vogue? Not so much. Until Daisy Ridley did it. Now it all makes perfect sense.

Ridley might be Vogue’s most badass cover girl to date. The actress, who stars as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is featured in the November issue. On the cover, she poses straight on, staring down the camera, wearing one earring and a leather bedazzled dress (both Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello). Her hair is disheveled, as if she had just finished an intense lightsaber fight. Her “open face,” as she describes it, is dotted with freckles, and her eye makeup is a little smudged.

The look on her face is unapologetic. It matches the way she describes herself in the article. “I was a little tomboy,” Ridley told Vogue. “Loud. Often very sassy. Insane amounts of energy. I remember asking, ‘Was I shy?’ And my mum laughing hysterically. She said I used to run into a room and go, ‘Helloooo!’’”

She chose her clothing for the shoot, and we’re impressed. In another photo for Vogue, Ridley wore a silver metallic fringed Valentino haute couture dress while marching through scaffolding.

But in the photo that’s got everyone talking, including us, Ridley is clothed in a look made for a very high-fashion scavenger: a multicolored metallic JW Anderson top, Scout Original patchwork cargo shorts, a G1 jacket (tied around her waist), Acne Studios reflective sunglasses, and knee-high lace-up Valentino Garavani combat boots. Her extra accessories? She’s got wolves walking along both sides of her. And she looks completely comfortable.

The only way to describe the shot is badass — way more natural than Oprah posing with a lion and Miley Cyrus with her pig.

She’s not as impressed with her sense of style as we are, though. When Ridley met with Vogue’s Gaby Wood wearing a “black three-­quarter-length dress she just picked up in & Other Stories, with white Converse high-tops, her hair pulled into a topknot,” she said, “I realize I sort of do dress like a 4-year-old.”

Ridley was plucked out of obscurity for the role of Rey in Star Wars and wasn’t even a fan of the movies until she started auditioning for The Force Awakens. “Only then did she begin to sense the phenomenon’s cultural presence,” Vogue wrote. “I was in Topshop, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, there are Princess Leia T-shirts.’ Suddenly I couldn’t see anything without seeing it too,” she told the magazine.

That was exactly what J.J. Abrams wanted for the trilogy — someone green, “‘an emotional person, a true person, a funny-as-hell person’ who was also ‘almost preternaturally confident. We needed someone whom you felt like you could know,’” Abrams told Vogue. “‘Who was beautiful but not someone who seemed like they were from another species. You needed to love her. Daisy came in, and her face was expressive and wide-eyed and lovely, and it was so clear.’”

And now, with The Last Jedi about to hit theaters, Ridley is a household name. And people have a lot to say about her Vogue cover — all good things. “[A]ctually sweating just staring at the queen of the spaceways,” a fan commented on Vogue’s Instagram post of the cover. “Wow the best one this year. Great job,” gushed another. “Very strong cover! From hair, make and clothes to Daisy’s look,” wrote a third. “My gawd, #DaisyRidley is absolutely STUNNING on le’ cover @voguemagazine (nearly fainted). Merci,” one fan wrote. “Now THIS is a cover.”

Vogue of course did one of its 73 Questions sessions with the actress, which seems to be blessed with the power of the Force.

Daisy Ridley in Vogue is the best thing to happen since the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer dropped two days ago.
