Daisy May Cooper is to star in a new BBC comedy thriller.

The ‘This Country’ star will be back on our screens in a new show coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer, along with her best friend and co-star Selin Hizli, who previously appeared in ‘Deadwater Fell’.

The 35-year-old co-creator of the as-yet-untitled show said: “So excited to be writing this with my best friend and the funniest person I know on a subject that I think sums us up perfectly ... toxic friendship."

Selin called the making of the six-episode series “a dream come true”.

She said: "Everything about creating this show has been a dream come true. Jack Thorne, Lookout Point and Boffola Pictures have been incredible.

"I can’t wait to bring this dark, funny world to life with Jonny Campbell and I’m so thrilled it has found its home at the BBC. Now I just have to put up with Daisy for a bit longer while we film it…"

BBC Comedy’s former Acting Director, Kate Phillips added that she was “proud” to have Daisy continue to work with them.

She said: "The scripts are golden and ooze pure comedy brilliance – viewers are going to devour this!"

Director of Comedy at the BBC, Jonathan Blyth, agreed, saying he was “delighted” at the commission.

He said: "We are delighted to be working with Daisy again on her next authored piece, and with Boffola and Lookout Point on their first comedy commission, to bring this brilliant comedy - thriller to a global audience."

The show will be filmed in Bristol and surrounding areas in the West Country in the autumn.

More details will be coming soon, such as casting news and the release date.

As well as being written and starring Daisy and Selin, it is produced by Pippa Brown, directed by Jonny and executive produced by Shane Allen, Jonny, Kate Daughton, Jack, along with Daisy and Selin.
