The past year may not have given us much (bar a whole load of newfound anxiety), but it has given us a glimpse inside royal homes. Which we're thoroughly enjoying, thank you very much.

As the pandemic sees us firmly remain in lockdown, the royal family has continued doing virtual calls in lieu of their usual in-person engagements. This week, Kate Middleton and Prince William teamed up for a chat with student nurse Abigail from Ulster University, who had previously made a TikTok detailing her long, working day.

During their chat, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge quizzed Abigail on her "baptism of fire" experience, being a student training to become a nurse in the midst of a pandemic. "It was so interesting to see what a typical day is like for yourself," Kate told the young woman, before thanking her for all she is doing.

The royals were dressed typically smart for the occasion in their front room, with William in a jumper underneath a suit jacket, and Kate wearing a fitted white top underneath a black blazer. And over their shoulders, we caught sight of an adorable photograph of Prince Louis that has been displayed pride of place.

The photo is one featuring Kate Middleton and her youngest son, Prince Louis cuddled up together in the spring of 2019, when Louis was just one. The picture was taken at the launch of the Duchess' RHS Back to Nature Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show, and in it, the mum-of-three lovingly has her arm around the toddler, who's smiling as he plays with stones.

Here's the original photo, which the family obviously liked so much they had it printed and framed:

Although you couldn't see any other pictures in the video from William and Kate's most recent video call, in past virtual engagements they've inadvertently shared more of a sneak peek. Back in November, when Kate Middleton spoke movingly with Armed Forces families to mark Remembrance Week, a few more family photos could be seen in the background.

Alongside the image of Prince Louis that now takes centre stage, the Cambridges also displayed a photograph of their eldest son, Prince George, released for his 6th birthday in July 2019. The picture shows the future king lying in the garden, laughing out loud and wearing his beloved England football kit. The Duchess of Cambridge took this photo herself, as she typically does with her children's portraits.

And keeping things equal, the third picture spotted on the shelf last year - though not visible in the couple's most recent video - was a snap taken from Princess Charlotte's first day at school. In it, she could be seen grinning away in her brand new school uniform, alongside her big brother.

All of the photos spotted in the background at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, are ones previously shared on their Instagram page, @KensingtonRoyal. And that's no doubt a very careful decision, as the couple probably want to keep most of their family photos private, and out of the public gaze.

Still, it's nice to see their favourites, and we can totally see why the one of Prince Louis made the cut - it's very sweet.
