After recently hitting our screens playing Princess Diana in season four of Netflix's The Crown, actress Emma Corrin has spoken out in response to critics who aren't happy with her portrayal of the Princess.
This new season of The Crown, and especially it's focus on the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana, has divided critics, with some of Prince Charles' friends reportedly particularly unhappy with how he's depicted on the show.
But Emma has now spoken out about the divided response during an appearance on the US Tamron Hall Show.
Speaking about how The Crown isn't supposed to be 100% fact, Emma explained: "It's a difficult one. I think for everyone in The Crown we always try and remind everyone that what we are, the series that we're in, is fictionalised to a great extent.
"Obviously it has its roots in reality and in some fact but Peter Morgan's [The Crown's creator] scripts are works of fiction."
Emma went on to add that she still gets why people might be unhappy with the show, saying: "At the same time, I understand why people would be upset because this is history ... and even with Diana it's still very much fresh, I suppose, everything that happened. So I do really understand if people would be upset."
Emma finished by saying that even though the people in The Crown are real, the cast treat them as characters, explaining: "We just want to constantly remind people that we approach these people that we play as characters, which is why it's such a joyous job because Peter writes such rich and complex characters - and as an actor it's such a joy to be able to really bring a lot to them."
Well, there you have it.
The Diana actress has also previously joked about running into Princes William and Harry, saying, "If I ever saw them at a party, I’d probably leave!" but she added that she'd be interested to know what they think about the show.
It's not known yet whether William and Harry watch the show, though Camilla Parker Bowles will apparently be watching. So you might have to wait and see on that one, Emma.
