The Crown's Emma Corrin will play a detective in a murder mystery series

Emma Corrin will play an amateur detective in her next TV role for murder mystery Retreat.

The Crown star will take the lead as ambitious sleuth Darby Hart, who attempts to solve a murder at a secluded retreat in the series from The OA creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij.

In addition to writing the screenplay, Marling and Batmanglij will also direct the episodes.

'Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have delivered a suspenseful story that updates the classic mystery genre with a bold new character for our times,' said Gina Balian, president of originals at FX. 'We are thrilled that Brit and Zal and the rest of the creative team will bring this series to life with their unique points of view and care.'

Corrin was recently nominated for an Emmy award for her role as Princess Diana in season four of The Crown, and it was announced that she will star in Netflix's female-focused adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover. Jack O'Connell will star opposite Corrin as Oliver Mellors, while Matthew Duckett will play Sir Clifford Chatterley.

Retreat is currently being billed as a limited series for FX, so we'll have to wait for the confirmation of a British broadcaster.

Here's everything we know so far about Retreat...

Retreat - The plot

The series follows Darby Hart and 11 other guests who are invited by a reclusive billionaire to a dazzling, remote location. When one of the other guests is suddenly found dead, 'Darby must fight to prove it was murder against a tide of competing interests and before the killer takes another life', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Retreat - The cast

Emma Corrin takes the lead as detective Darby Hart, but additional cast members have yet to be announced. We'll keep you posted.

Retreat - The release date

Filming has yet to commence, so we'll probably have to wait until 2022 until this series arrives on our small screens. Many FX productions (such as Pose and Mrs America) have been picked up be the BBC, so we're hoping Retreat will be too.
