The countdown to The Crown returning to our screens is on – with just three days to go until series four starts streaming on Netflix on Sunday 15th November.

One of the things Peter Jackson's incredible royal drama is renowned for is the attention to detail that goes into the costumes, make-up and sets. So it's no surprise that the trailer for season four promises more of the same, especially when it comes to regal locations.

It transpires that one property has had a real starring role in the new series. Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire was used as both the interior of Downing Street – where Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson, is seen working and holding meetings – and the Queen's Scottish holiday home, Balmoral Castle, where Olivia Colman spends time.

That means both Anderson and Colman – along with the cast and crew of The Crown –stayed at Hedsor during filming. And now you can too because the house is available for hire post-lockdown.

It's perhaps unsurprising that Jackson chose the beautiful property as a key filming location. Hedsor is just 15 miles from London and has welcomed Kings, Queens and royal children from nearby Windsor Castle since 1166.

Originally designed by Sir William Chambers, the architect of Somerset House, with the help of King George III and Queen Charlotte, the house was once famously owned by Dowager Princess of Wales, mother of George III and the founder of Kew Gardens.

It's also a celebrity favourite, having previously hosted the Beckhams, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Elton John. Other films and TV shows filmed in the house and grounds include Downton Abbey, Brighton Rock and Legend.
