Dominic West has teased the tone of season six of The Crown, in which he will reprise the role of Prince Charles.

The Netflix series recently held a table read ahead of filming this August, and the actor, known for The Wire and The Affair, will star again as the British heir to the throne opposite Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.

"It will be as tumultuous as it gets, I think," West told Deadline about the final season, which is set to depict the death of Diana in 1997.

The actor also shared his feelings about playing Charles, saying: "I love the man. He's a force for good, he really is an extraordinary man."

West and Debicki took over the roles of Charles and Diana in season five from Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin, whose performances were awarded a Golden Globe in 2021.

The fifth chapter, set to debut later this year, also stars Phantom Thread actress Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Game of Thrones' Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.

Last year, it was announced that the series created by Peter Morgan would end with its sixth season. Executive producer Suzanne Mackie confirmed the decision to not take the period drama further than the late 1990s.

"Peter has said it very articulately, that he simply can't write something unless there has been time to gain a proper perspective," she said.

"I think he's always felt ten years is the minimum amount of time that he can see something in a historical context, to allow him to really understand it.

"I don't think he'll deviate from that."

The Crown season five will premiere in November 2022, while seasons one to four are now streaming on Netflix. Seasons 1-3 are also available on DVD and Blu-ray.
