As one of the most hotly-anticipated TV shows of 2022, fans of The Crown are literally counting down the days till season five is released. And you can't really blame them, as this season promises to be the most dramatic yet – not least because we get to see Elizabeth Debicki recreate Princess Diana's iconic 'revenge dress'.

On Friday (5 November), photos emerged from the set of The Crown, which show Elizabeth Debicki in character as Princess Diana as she steps out of a car wearing a replica of the famous dress worn by Diana back in 1994.

Princess Diana wore the Christina Stambolian dress for the 1994 Vanity Fair party at the Serpentine Gallery. The dress earned its moniker as her 'revenge dress' as she wore it on the same night as Princes Charles' tell-all documentary, Charles: The Private Man, The Public Role, premiered on national TV, in which he reportedly confirmed he hadn't been "faithful and honourable" in his marriage to Diana.

Unsurprisingly, fans' reactions to the snaps have been overwhelmingly positive, with many people pointing out the uncanny resemblance between the Australian actress and the late Princess Diana.

One person tweeted, "My jaw is on the floor at these pictures of Elizabeth Debicki filming in Diana’s revenge dress."

Elsewhere, another fan added: "Elizabeth Debicki wearing Diana revenge dress is a cultural reset."

Here's how the rest of Twitter responded:

Princess Diana's 'revenge dress' is not the only dramatic moment to be featured in season five of The Crown. According to a report from The Sun, it will also include Diana's groundbreaking Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, following her split from Prince Charles in 1995.

Season five of The Crown is expected to air on Netflix in November 2022.
