The Crown is back with its fourth season, which showcases events from 1977 to 1990.

Historic moments from the royal family's past explored in the new season include the assassination of Lord Mountbatten, Michael Fagan's infamous break-in to Buckingham Palace and Prince Charles' marriage to Princess Diana.

The scenes involving Charles and Diana (Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin) have proved controversial, mainly for the scenes that show Charles pining after Camilla Parker Bowles, who herself was married.

Camilla appears in just a handful of scenes in the new season, and she's played by Emerald Fennell.

Fennell made her debut in the show's third season.

Since her debut, Fennell's profile has risen with many discovering the actor is multi-talented.

She is also a screenwriter, director and author.

Her biggest credits as writer is the hit series Killing Eve, for which she succeeded Phoebe Waller-Bridge as showrunner ahead of its second season. She earned two Emmy nominations in the process.

Fennell has also directed a forthcoming feature film, Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan.

The film was recently delayed from 2020 to 2021, but made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, earning rave reviews.

Fennell's other acting credits include BBC series Call the Midwife as well as films Anna Karenina, Albert Nobbs and Vita and Virginia.

In 2021, when theatres reopen, she will collaborate with Andrew Lloyd Webber for a new musical production of the Disney classic Cinderella.
