Crochet robin pattern
Please note:
The body is worked entirely in rounds with the right side of the work facing you.
1ch at beg of round does not count as st.
The tail and wings are worked in rows, not rounds. Wings are worked from lower tip to top edge.
Body (starting at centre front)
Foundation round: With 3.5mm hook and A, make a ring of yarn as follows: wind yarn round index finger of left hand to form a ring, insert hook into ring, yrh and pull a loop through, work 1ch, (does not count as a st) work 8dc into the ring, pull end of yarn tightly to close ring, sl st to dc from beg on rnd. (8 sts)
Continue to work in rounds.
Rnd 1: 1ch, [2dc in next st] to end, ss to dc from beg of rnd. (16 sts).
Rnd 2: 1ch, [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (24 sts).
Rnd 3: 1ch, [1dc in each next 3sts, 2dc in next st] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (30 sts).
Rnd 4: 1ch, [1dc in each next 4sts, 2dc in next st] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd.
Break off A and join in B. (36 sts)
Rnd 5: 1ch, [1dc in each next 5sts, 2dc in next st] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd (42 sts)
Rnd 6: 1ch, *[1dc in each next 5sts, 2dc in next st] 3 times, [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 3 times, work from * to * once more, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (51 sts).
Rnd 7: 1ch, 1dc in each next 21sts, [2htr in next st, 1htr in each next 2sts] 3 times, dc to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (54 sts).

Rnd 21: 1ch, 1dc in each next 24 sts, [dc2tog, 1dc in each next 3 sts] 4 times, dc2tog, dc to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (66sts).
Rnds 22-23: As rnds 12-20.
Rnd 24: 1ch, 1dc in each next 22 sts, [dc2tog, 1dc in each next 2 sts] 5 times, dc2tog, dc to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (60 sts).
Rnd 25: 1ch, [1dc in each next 8sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (54 sts).
Rnds 26-27: As rounds 12-20.
Rnd 28: 1ch, [1dc in each next 7sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (48 sts).
Rnds 29-30: As rnds 12-20.
Rnd 31: 1ch, [1dc in each next 6sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (42 sts).
Rnd 32: As rnd 12.
Rnd 33: 1ch, [1dc in each next 5sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (36 sts).
Stuff lightly and insert toy eyes on the head or embroider eyes with black yarn. Embroider triangle beak using black yarn. When the back of the body is closed completely it will be impossible to do any further work on the inside of the body as the opening will be too small. Over the coming rounds, add extra stuffing before the rounds close completely.
Rnd 34: 1ch, [1dc in each next 4sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (30 sts).
Rnd 35: 1ch, [1dc in each next 3sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (24 sts). Place a marker at the centre of the round just worked to mark the placement of the tail.
Rnd 36: 1ch, [1dc in each next 1sts, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (18 sts).
Rnd 37: 1ch, [1dc in next st, dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. (12 sts).
Rnd 38: 1ch, [dc2tog] to end, sl st to dc from beg of rnd. Fasten off leaving a long tail of yarn and use a darning needle to stitch this around the small opening to draw it closed.
Tail
Foundation row: Using 3.5mm hook and B, make 14ch. 1tr in 4th ch from hook (count as 1tr and 1ch), [1ch, 1tr in next ch] to end. (12 trebles separated by 11 chains for a total of 23 sts)
Next row: 1ch, [1dc in next tr, 1dc in next ch] to last st, 1dc in 3rd of 4ch from beg of previous row. Stitch to rear of body joining the chain edge of tail using marker as a guide.
Wings (make 2)
Foundation row: Using 3.5mm hook and B, make 3ch (counts as 1tr), 3tr in 3rd ch from hook (4 sts).
Row 1: 3ch (counts as 1tr), 1tr in st at base of ch, 1 tr in every st to end, 2tr in 3rd of 3 ch from beg of previous row. (6 sts)
Rep last row four more times. (14 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stitch to body along top edge of wing diagonally. Position top of wing level with eyes 9 rnds from red tummy and finish in line with edges of tail.
Legs (make 2)
Using 3.5mm hook and C, make 18ch. [ss in 5th ch from hook, 5ch] twice, sl st in 5th ch from hook. Fasten off and sew to underside of robin.
