PENRITH Cricket Club has spoken of the generosity shown by the town's community after their club was recently vandalised.

One example of this is a local window company, North Lakes Glass, whose members Niall Renwick, Brendan Ferguson and Ash Clark donated replacement glass for all three of the patio tables that were part of the damage caused by vandals a few weeks ago.

The club chairman, Andy Hall, explained more about what happened: “There was a very unpleasant incident where some local youths cause some damage.

“They managed to somehow damage the sandstone wall that forms a boundary.

“They vandalised the patio tables, breaking the glass.

“There was other damage that they caused on the club and they managed to break into the portacabin.

“There was a lot of heartache, I think the phrase we used was ‘mindless’.

“Why did they want to o this towards a voluntary organisation?

“They were not thinking straight.”

However, the generosity of the Penrith community seemingly knows no bounds, as Andy explained: “The good thing is the unbelievable good work and goodwill of our community.

“We have had, as well as North West Glass who replaces the glass patio tables, we have another company that came up to reinstall the glass on the patio tables.

“We had another company that repaired the side screens for us and we set up an online donations website for people to donate money to help with the repairs.

“We have had a lot of donations.

“We have had people even with very limited connections to the club donate.

“We’ve even had someone from Penrith who now lives on the south coast donate to the fundraiser because she loves her town.

“It really is heartening to know how important we are to the community.

“From what was a pretty awful experience, there has been a lot of good to come out of this.”
