Cressida Bonas picked the perfect summery Eponine London dress, paired with an elegant feathered fascinator, for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding last weekend.

But the actress admitted that the prospect of wearing a hat was particularly "tricky", and was the main "dilemma" she faced ahead of Harry and Meghan's big day - as headwear was an obligatory part of the dress code.

"Friends are starting to get married, which means the dilemma of British wedding attire," Bonas wrote in her column for The Spectator.

"Hats. Why do I find hats so tricky? Tricky to wear, tricky to look at, and extremely tricky for the poor soul sitting in the pew behind.

"Most of the time I avoid headgear. This can prompt disapproving looks from the older generations. Last weekend I attended the royal wedding.

"The invitation clearly stated that guests must wear hats. Yikes. I opted for a minimal feathered number - and can only hope I got it right."

Bonas dated Harry for two years after the pair were introduced via the royal's cousin, Princess Eugenie.

The pair split up in 2014, and it was reported that Bonas' ambition to pursue acting, plus the media intrusion that comes with dating a member of the royal family, was part of the reason for their separation.

Prince Harry - now also known as the Duke of Sussex - also invited former long-term girlfriend Chelsy Davy to his nuptials at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

He and Davy were in a relationship on and off between 2004 and 2011.

Meanwhile, it's been reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will going be to Namibia on their honeymoon. The royal couple put it on hold to attend Prince Charles' 70th birthday garden party at Buckingham Palace earlier this week.
