(EPA)Flights from Dubai will end from tomorrow, after the UAE was added to a list of 30 other countries currently subject to a travel ban, along with Rwanda and Burundi in central Africa.
Grant Shapps, the UK travel secretary, said people who have been in or transited through these countries will be denied entry unless they are British, Irish and third country nationals with residence rights - who would also have to self-isolate for 10 days at home.
The new additions to the travel ban come on the same day the government pulled a coronavirus advert urging the nation to “stay home and save lives” which included illustrations of women doing household chores and doing childcare following major backlash.
The advert was met with horror by women, who branded it “unbelievable” and “like a scene from the 1950s”. A spokesperson for Boris Johnson said it has been withdrawn and “does not reflect the government’s views on women”.
Also on Thursday,1,239 more coronavirus deaths were reported in the UK, as well as more than 28,600 new infections.
Meanwhile, Cabinet minister Michael Gove has said that a list of countries from which travellers will be required to quarantine in hotels when they arrive in the UK will be reviewed on Thursday.
He said minister will be reviewing “how extensive that list of countries needs to be” and will follow advice from scientific advisers.
