More often than not, when you receive the bill at the end of a meal, you embark on the tricky task of dividing up who needs to pay what, how much of a tip you should give, and squabbling over who sneakily ordered the extra side dish of truffle-oil chips.

However, unfortunately for couple Belinda Mulcah and Jo Sheperd, the pair were recently landed with an offensive bill that gave them something different to talk about.

DIVA magazine reports the pair were staying at Hafan y Môr Holiday Park in Pwllheli, North Wales for Mulcah's birthday and were handed a restaurant bill which had, printed at the top, their table number and in capital letters the word 'lesbians'.

'Belinda looked at me and she said, "Are you alright?" I showed her and she was speechless,' Sheperd told the publication.

'We hadn't done anything overt. We hadn't been kissing at the bar or holding hands. We could have been friends. We could have been relations. We could have been a whole host of things. So the fact the decided to identify us as lesbians was a bit horrifying. We were shocked at how stupid this man had been,' she added.

Having complained to the bar manager, the pair were taken aback when the employee tried to take back the receipt and offered a couple of free drinks to appease them.

'As if that was going to make it ok,' Sheperd said.

'It doesn't make [what happened] better in any shape or form,' she explained, adding that she couldn't understand why a member of staff would want to discriminate them, especially in such a blasé manner.

The caravan park- where the pair were staying - reportedly offered its 'sincere apologies to the guests involved' and said it was 'sorry for any distress caused'.

A spokesperson from the park told DIVA: 'Following an investigation conducted by management, the individual concerned has been subject to internal disciplinary action. Our team members will also undertake refreshed training courses to ensure that an incident like this does not occur in the future.'

This kind of behaviour is just not on.
