If sober dating sounds like your idea of a nightmare - then you're actually in the minority.
A huge percentage of us are giving up booze on dates, according to new research from the dating app Inner Circle. The study showed that nearly half (47%) of us are saying no to booze while we meet our potential matches.
While, some daters are going even further - and giving up dating (40%) for the foreseeable, due to the cost of living crisis. We get you, dating is probably on the back of your mind right now, especially with many of us struggling with bills, because of the cost of living crisis.
In September inflation reached 10.1% - the highest it's been since 1982, meaning a pint could cost up to £7, while experts are also warning that the price of wine could spike too. Dating can be expensive and complicated anyway, without fearing your credit card bill the next day, while getting over the hangover from hell.
So, what are the benefits of sober dating? If you've ever woken up regretting that kiss with a first date and failed to remember what you even spoke about then you're not alone - as the same study showed that over half (56%) of daters believed that saying no to the booze would mean getting to know their date better. Another 55% admitted that it would allow them to meet like-minded people.
However, not everyone liked the thought of sober dating. The study showed that nerves were the biggest factor - with nearly two-thirds (61%) of daters admitting that an alcoholic drink would make them more relaxed when meeting a stranger. Another 39% of daters said that even the thought of sober dating would make them nervous.
Worried about a potential date judging you for not drinking? Over half of daters said that wouldn't mind a sober date - so start googling those alternative dates, and if you're both into fitness, why not try and yoga or running date?
Of course, it's your choice whether you drink on a date or not, and we love that daters are becoming more open-minded about how they can play out.
