Coronation Street favourite Jennie McAlpine has officially been a staple of Weatherfield for 20 years, the actress has revealed.

Jennie celebrated her character's 20th anniversary in a sweet Twitter post shared yesterday (22 April).

Marking the special occasion, Jennie wrote: "I can't quite believe I've been pretending to be Fiz for 20 years @itvcorrie. I remember that frightening but brilliant first day like it was yesterday. It's been joyous. I love those cobbles".

While Jennie is no doubt enjoying her time on the cobbles, her character Fiz Stape is still struggling with the breakdown of her relationship with Tyrone Dobbs, as he continues to move on with Alina Pop.

Opening up about Fiz and Tyrone's split last month, Jennie admitted that was "gutted" to learn the long-standing couple would be separated.

"It is a big deal to potentially not have scenes with Alan again, or nice things with him," she revealed. "That's sad, but I was also really, really touched and kind of honoured that the writers gave us this story."

Offering her take on Fiz's thought process as she comes to terms with Tyrone's new romance, Jennie added: "Fiz thought it was all okay and they were just rowing like normal people row, because life is hard.

"But that's not what it was – it was that Tyrone was wanting to be somewhere else, which was with Alina, not Fiz."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
