Coronation Street's Glenda Shuttleworth future confirmed after 'exit' mix-up

Coronation Street's Glenda Shuttleworth is staying in Weatherfield!

On yesterday's (March 29) episode of This Morning, Corrie fans were left confused after soap expert Sharon Marshall mistakenly announced that Jodie Prenger's character would be leaving the cobbles.

The mix-up came as Sharon discussed some of the ITV soap's upcoming storylines in response to recent complaints about the dark nature of Ryan's devastating acid attack scenes.

"People are saying 'we want the humour' and the humour is still absolutely there. Coming up you've got Mary thinking she's off on an Italian getaway with Brian. Mary with stars in their eyes is something we all love to see. Will her hopes be dashed?" she said.

"Ruthie Henshall is joining in a guest appearance, safely, this will though mean an exit for Glenda Shuttleworth. Can I officially say on this sofa, can we please have her back."

However, Sharon was quick to clear up the misunderstanding, later tweeting: "I am the biggest idiot. The iconic Jodie Prenger is NOT leaving Corrie. Glenda is staying. I am so so sorry, I got my wires crossed. She is staying. She is fabulous!"

Tony Maudsley, who plays Glenda's brother George Shuttleworth, was quick to find the humour in Sharon's blunder and replied: "Thank God for that. I was going in tomorrow to start a whip round for her leaving do," alongside some laughing face emojis.

"Oh Tony I’m mortified And I was BANGING on saying, save her. Am still shook up from Cerberus.. am blaming that," Sharon added, referring to the recent death of Evelyn Plummer's pet dog.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
