Coronation Street's Bethany Platt headed for danger in terrifying new plot
Coronation Street's Bethany Platt is in for a harrowing and potentially fatal experience as she faces a severe battle with sepsis in an upcoming plot twist. Lucy Fallon, who has played the iconic role since 2015, made her dramatic return to the soap earlier this year after leaving Weatherfield for a new opportunity in London.
Since her comeback, Bethany has been struggling financially and was further distressed by the reappearance of her abuser Nathan Curtis (portrayed by Christopher Harper) after his time behind bars. Her involvement in the search for the missing Lauren Bolton, convinced of Nathan's involvement, has also been a significant part of her storyline.
However, with the teen played by Cait Fitton found alive and also pregnant, and Joel Deering's impending downfall, Bethany's own story is about to take a shocking turn as she battles for her life against sepsis. Feeling increasingly self-conscious about her looks, Bethany decides to undergo a major surgery overseas, disregarding the potential dangers, reports the Mirror.

Tragically, she will suffer from a life-threatening infection following the botched procedure and will be taken to hospital in critical condition. A TV source revealed to The Sun that this plot presents actress Lucy with a substantial challenge. "It's a really meaty storyline for Lucy to get her teeth into," the source said.
"Dodgy cosmetic surgery is a big issue and it can have catastrophic side effects and the hope is that this storyline will make people more aware of that. But for Lucy it gives her something really dramatic to play and that's when she's at her best. It's really going to hit viewers when the Platts realise just how ill Bethany is."

The news follows the announcement by the actress that she's expecting her second bundle of joy, which means she'll be taking another break from the Manchester-set drama for maternity leave. The 28-year-old soap favourite took to Instagram on August 19 to share her joy, revealing she was already at the halfway mark in her pregnancy with her footballer beau, Ryan Ledson.
In an adorable post, she included her one year old son, Sonny Jude, who was pictured holding his future sibling's ultrasound scans. In the heartwarming reveal video, fans got a glimpse of Lucy and Ryan's family life as they relaxed at home with little Sonny Jude, looking through books before Lucy proudly showed off her growing baby bump.
