Coronation Street's Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, has opened up about how her wife, fellow actress Isobel Middleton, supported her during some of the soap's most emotional scenes. Jane admitted that her role became "too much." at times, especially during this week's heart-wrenching scenes where Paul (Peter Ash) passes away from MND.

Off-screen, Jane and Isobel, known for her roles in Emmerdale and EastEnders, have been together for over 28 years and tied the knot in 2015. In a recent interview with Liverpool Echo, Jane shared a touching moment when she was "unable to open the script" for the episode where Paul dies, and Isobel stepped in to help her cope with the demanding storyline.

Jane shared her experience with the challenging script, saying: "It is really hard. I couldn't actually open this script at home, because I didn't want to have that hanging around my dining room, if you know what I mean." She then revealed how her partner supported her through it: "So my missus took me off to a shepard's hut in Northumbria, and we sat in the sunshine with a bottle of wine and read it together."

On the subject of the script's content, Jane remarked: "I thought it was going to be too much for me to have in the house, as it were." Jane's other half, Isobel, is also no stranger to the small screen. Over the years, Isobel has portrayed three different characters on Emmerdale.

Her roles included Dr Lane in 2014, a barrister during Simon McManus' trial in 2018, and Jean Rawson in 2020, all set against the backdrop of the iconic Yorkshire Dales. But Isobel's acting credits aren't limited to Emmerdale; she's had her share of soap opera fame elsewhere. In 2002, she graced EastEnders as Sadie Banks. Not only that, but Isobel also ventured into the world of big-screen magic, appearing in the 2009 hit film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
