Ever since he made his debut on Coronation Street in August 2011, Colson Smith has been a fan favourite alongside his on-screen mum, Beth Tinker (played by Lisa George).

But now, two fans have taken their love for the Corrie star the extra mile, by deciding to name their unborn son after him.

Speaking in a recent episode of his 'On The Sofa' podcast with his fellow cobbles stars Ben Price and Jack P. Shepherd, he revealed how he discovered the news.

Excited to tell Ben and Jack about how the situation had unfolded, Colson started reading the letter from his superfan, which said: "Hello Colson, how are you? My wife is currently 20 weeks pregnant and we're really excited to let you know that we've decided to name my baby boy, Colson, due date 15 December. We love Corrie and when we first watched you on Big Brother we thought that was an unusual name and we warmed to you more and more as we watched you in the coming weeks."

He added: "I then googled the definition to find out that it means 'son of Nicholas', and it must be fate, as that is my name and we heard you referring to your dad as 'big Nick'. My wife works in a farm shop and has served Ben Price a couple of times. We would love to meet you and perhaps let little Colson meet big Colson."

However, Colson warned the soon-to-be parents that they should potentially re-think the name, as he was picked on because of it as a youngster: "I did wonder whether to message them to basically say 'don't do it to the poor kid, I got bullied all through my childhood'".

Taken aback by the unexpected news, Colson proclaimed that it was one of the best things to ever happen to him, while Ben and Jack were left exceptionally envious, admitting that nothing of the kind had happened to them before.

Colson first appeared on our screens when he was aged just 13-years-old when he and Lisa George were cast to play a mother and son duo. Since then, Colson has appeared in a number of huge storylines in the soap as Craig Tinker, as well as recently temporarily leaving the street to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, where he finished in third place.
