Coronation Street fans were stunned as Lauren Bolton's killer was finally unmasked in a chilling flashback during Thursday, 30 May's episode.

Fans will remember that Roy Cropper has been under suspicion for the alleged murder of missing teenager Lauren, who mysteriously disappeared from the cobbles earlier this year. Her friend Bobby raised alarm bells when he discovered her flat unlocked and empty, with no sign of Lauren anywhere.

Despite viewers never witnessing Lauren's departure, it appears she confided in Roy about her plans to leave Weatherfield. This led to Roy being reported to the police by Bobby and subsequently becoming the prime suspect due to his kind-hearted nature.

His innocent act of cleaning Lauren's flat was misconstrued as evidence of guilt, leading to a wave of online abuse from internet detectives.

In a dramatic turn of events, DS Lisa Swain and newcomer Kit believed they had solved the case when they arrested Nathan Curtis, Bethany Platt's abuser who was recently released from prison.

As they questioned Nathan with Joel Deering acting as his lawyer, a gruesome flashback made it appear as though Nathan was the killer. However, a shock twist later revealed that it was actually Joel who was responsible for Lauren's death, leaving viewers stunned, reports the Mirror.

As the episode came to a close, the residents of the cobbles were seen celebrating Roy's release from prison following Nathan's arrest. Joel, leaving the festivities, headed towards his car which had been cleaned by Hope Stape as part of her fundraising efforts for the drama club Little Big Shotz.

In a spine-chilling twist, Hope revealed she had found a gold necklace under his car seat - Lauren's.

This revelation triggered a disturbing flashback showing Joel attacking Lauren, leaving her lifeless and covered in blood. He was then seen shaking and repeatedly brushing back his hair and touching his face in shock as he looked in the mirror.

As he rushed out of the flat, he grabbed the gold necklace. The flashback then ended, returning to the cobbles with a sinister scene of Joel playing with the necklace in his hand, staring off into the distance.

Fans couldn't believe the shock twist, with many taking to Twitter, now called X, to share their shock. One person said: "OMG I’m SCREAMING!!! #Corrie", while another wrote: "WHAT AN EPISODE! SHOCKED! #Corrie."

With Nathan now behind bars, will Joel be caught and who else is in danger?
