Coronation Street fans 'work out' Lauren's alive but 'held captive' in chilling twist

Coronation Street is set to air the first in a series of special episodes that by the end of the week, will reveal what happened to Lauren Bolton.

Starting on Monday 27 May, Coronation Street will show an episode a night from the perspectives of different characters with the episode on Thursday 30 May showing the fate of missing teen Lauren. Viewers were given their first glimpse into the terrifying ordeal for poor Lauren during a promo.

The teenager was seen attempting to flee her flat, but a masked figure behind her put a hand over her mouth. The soap hasn't confirmed that Lauren is dead despite blood being found in her flat - and there are some fans that believe she’s still alive too.

On Reddit, one fan wrote: “I assume she's being trafficked and this week will reveal where she's being held. However, my obscure theory is that Joel has kidnapped her and is holding her somewhere. Either they will be shown on screen together as a cliff hanger or DeeDee will find her.”

Another pondered a different theory: “I’m starting to run out of ideas as to where she could be. Starting to wonder if she’s maybe got caught up in this “institute” and is at some retreat somewhere being held against her will!" A third shared: “It could be a double bluff? They tell us she's dead, she's not? But she's killed during an episode this week?”

The trailer also saw a terrifying ordeal for Roy Cropper (David Neilson) who remains behind bars for the ‘murder’ of Lauren. Roy’s in trouble as extremist Griff Reynolds (Michael Condron) is placed in Weatherfield prison. With an axe to grind with Roy, Griff lures him to the library where he then holds a knife to Roy’s neck.

Griff demands to know what happened to Lauren - and orders Roy to stay his last words.

During the first episode, airing on Monday night, viewers will see Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) who is determined to get rid of her daughter’s ex-abuser Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) from the cobbles. With Bethany threatening to leave Weatherfield, Sarah is determined to prove that Nathan is behind Lauren’s disappearance, whatever the stakes.

Executive Producer of Coronation Street Iain MacLeod said: “This week is so gripping and unlike anything Coronation Street has done before, in terms of the story-telling. It’s modern, really exciting and has some of our favourite characters right in the middle of the drama."
