It turns out even his family members aren’t acclimatized yet to Connor McDavid being the best hockey player on the planet.

In the season-opener against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers captain was doing his typical dance around the offensive zone and his grandmother, up in the stands, was caught on camera enjoying the on-ice action.

With a look of intense concentration on the play — no doubt with the same vigour she's had since watching him in peewee — Grandma McDavid expressed emotion the only way someone can when watching this perennial Hart Trophy contender: By cursing.

The fact that someone who has most likely been watching the Oilers star centreman since he started skating is still so enthralled by a mid-range scoring chance is heartwarming, and puts into perspective how special a player McDavid truly is.

Now there will be a mandate for every one of us to collectively swear during every highlight this season. It’s natural.

McDavid finished the 3-2 shootout win over the Canucks with two assists, hoping to add a third Hart Trophy and fourth Art Ross Trophy to his cupboard this season.
