Pierce Brosnan is many things – artist, Hawaiian dreamhouse owner, the once and future Bond – but thus far what he's never been is a deeply creepy fertility expert in a prestige horror film. Until now, that is.
These are the first images from False Positive, the upcoming horror written by Ilana Glazer who you'll remember as Ilana from Broad City. It's been picked up by A24, who also distributed Minari, Saint Maud, Hereditary, Midsommar and The Lighthouse, among many other things, which feels like a decent pointer towards what to expect. There are heavy Rosemary's Baby vibes to it.
So far we know that it's about a young couple, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux), who've been trying to conceive for ages but to no avail. Fortunately they find their perfect fertility doctor Dr Hindle (Brosnan) and Lucy's soon pregnant with a healthy baby girl. There is – you'll no doubt be shocked to learn, having seen Brosnan's extremely serious looks in that picture up the top there – a bit of a catch though.
What type of catch, we don't know yet. But you're aware of Rosemary's Baby, right? This baby is unlikely to be all sweetness and light. This feels like both an exciting next chapter for Glazer and, just possibly, the start of a glorious valedictory Third Act for Brosnan in which he plays malevolent members of every emergency service, from a malevolent paramedic to a malevolent search and rescue coastguard helicopter pilot. False Positive is out on 25 June on Hulu.
