Colin Farrell is Having the Time of His Life as The Penguin in the New Trailer for 'The Batman'

A long, long (... long) year ago, in October 2020, we got a glimpse of some set photos from The Batman. Standing next to Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne, was an unidentified half-human, half-prosthetics creation, looking like a Sopranos character beamed through the multiverse and into the next Batflick.

Turns out that the monstrosity was Colin Farrell. In disguise as a Batman rogue named Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the Penguin. It prompted us to write an entirely too long list of questions about how we could reasonably expect the layers of rubber on Farrell's face to move like that of a human whose mug is unencumbered by the supply an entire makeup department.

Well, friends: Today we got our answers, via The Batman's new trailer, which debuted at DC FanDome this Saturday. In the nearly three-minute-long look at our first solo Batman film since the days of Christian Bale, we got brand-new looks at Zoë Kravitz's Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano's The Riddler, and of course, Battinson himself. (Including a pretty damn good Batman growl!) We don't get too much in the way of story in the preview, except for the repeated implication that Bruce Wayne copped some bulletproof armor for his new adventure. If we're being honest, though, we're still morbidly intrigued by Farrell's metamorphosis into your Italian uncle.

In the trailer, we get two solid looks at the Penguin. In the first bit, we see Batman gearing up to take a swing at the big guy, who wails, "TAKE IT EASY, SWEETHEART!" like an NPC in a Grand Theft Auto game. Big Moment No. 2 comes near the end of the preview, in what looks like a car chase between our man Oswald and the Batmobile. The former thinks he blew up the latter, until the Batmobile rises from a ball of flames, back on the chase. The whole way, Farrell is laughing and screaming and pointing his fingers, as if no one told him that this particular Batman movie is supposed to be emo. We're just glad that he seems to be having fun under there.
