Cody Simpson has broken his silence on his split with Miley Cyrus, explaining what caused the break up and what he learnt from the intense relationship, which ended in August 2020 after almost a year.
Fans were all pretty surprised when Miley and Cody split back in summer last year after 10 months together. The PDA-heavy pair hadn't been shy about the relationship, with the Australian singer hinting he was already in love just weeks after they started dating, and both of them posting a number of intimate pictures together on Instagram.
So when Miley suddenly confirmed their split during an Instagram Live after reports had begun to surface it came as a bit of a shock to us all. Now, Cody has finally addressed the break up, ending his silence nine months after the split.
During an interview with 60 Minutes Cody spoke openly about the relationship describing it as "one of those phases."
"I'd known her for a long time at that point, not like a mentor but always a very hyper-creative person," he explained.
"We went from being good friends, to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while, and everything ended fairly amicably."
He added, "It was just one of those phases I guess. You go through it and you learn a lot from it."
At the time of the split, Miley explained that "...two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age."
She also added that there was no big drama behind their split and that they're still great friends and always will be.
