Driveways and patios are continually exposed to the elements, leading to the accumulation of dirt, grime, and weeds.

Regular cleaning before winter is crucial for preventing the buildup of stubborn dirt.

Property expert Gregory Smith from PriceYourJob.co.uk advises that cleaning patios helps maintain their condition and prevent future problems. While using a pressure washer is the fastest method for cleaning your driveway and patio, the expert has also provided some natural alternatives.

These include using washing up liquid along with water as well as white vinegar, the Express reports.

The expert said: “Start by examining the driveway and removing any weeds that you see poking through cracks and gaps. The way to do this will depend on how severe the problem is.

“If you can pull up the weeds by hand, this is the best option. There are no special products required to create the soapy cleaning solution.

“Use a mild soap with warm water. Just make sure you check the soap that you use, as some soaps could cause damage to the pavers. Mix the soapy solution together until you start to see a foam form on the top.”

Apply some of the mixture to the driveway and patio, scrubbing the entire surface until it’s thoroughly cleaned. Once you've finished scrubbing, take a brush to loosen any remaining dirt.

Afterward, rinse the driveway to reveal the final result, using either a hose or buckets of water.

The expert noted: “White vinegar also works wonders for cleaning your driveway. Grab a bucket and mix together a solution of one part water and one part white vinegar.

“If your driveway is particularly dirty or features some stubborn stains, you may need to use a solution with slightly more vinegar than water.

“Pour the water and vinegar solution over the entire driveway. You may need to use several buckets to cover the entire surface of the driveway. Leave the vinegar and water solution to do its thing for around 30 minutes or more.”

Use buckets of clean water to rinse the vinegar solution off the surface, ensuring that you direct it toward a drainage point.

Finally, allow the driveway or patio to air dry so you can assess the results and determine if further cleaning is necessary.

To remove moss from your drive, sprinkle baking soda evenly over the affected area and let it sit overnight, making sure the weather is dry beforehand.
