Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman will present the grand finale of The Piano series two which airs on Sunday 9 June.

After multiple heats which saw amateur musicians from all around the country playing on street pianos, the best contestants will showcase their talents in one final performance.

They’ve been mentored by maestros Mika and Lang Lang, and now, the magnificent seven amateur pianists take to the stage at Manchester’s Aviva Studios in front of a 2,000-strong crowd.

The last series saw 13-year-old contestant Lucy Illingworth who is blind and neurodivergent win with an incredibly moving performance - and go on to have her own spin-off episode.

And when this series ends tonight, thankfully, there will be another for viewers to enjoy next year.

Last July, Channel 4 confirmed The Piano had been recommissioned for series three which is expected to air in 2025.

They praised it as a show that ‘creates incredible opportunities for undiscovered pianists to showcase their talent on public pianos across the UK’.

Speaking ahead of the second series, Ian Katz, Channel 4, chief creative officer said: “In a world full of wannabes seeking their moment in the limelight, The Piano was a breath of fresh air. It celebrated ordinary people doing something extraordinary for the sheer love of it.

“From the 94-year-old widower who played in Glasgow station to find company to Lucy, the remarkable 13-year-old who stole the ‘nations hearts’. It took viewers on a remarkable emotional roller coaster and I’m delighted that it will be coming back from more British stations, next year.”

The 2024 final includes one contestant who is 80 years old and suffers from dementia.

Duncan Goodwin performed a piece of his own, titled ‘Theme for Fran’, dedicating it to his wife of 42 years. “It’s a great big thank you,” he told presenter Claudia, as she asked him about the piece.

“If he’s just playing anything and then he plays that, I just have to go across and give him a kiss!” Fran said.

During his audition, he stole Claudie’s heart, and she demanded that he go through to the final.

After Duncan's performance, Claudia rushed to Lang Lang and Mika saying: "He is going to the concert, it is not a debate. It is important to have somebody like that and the fact he can speak through the piano."
