Citizen Kane, King Kong, Top Hat and other classic films have landed on BBC iPlayer

Exciting news for film lovers, some of the best known movies from the golden age of Hollywood have now landed on BBC iPlayer.

Twenty-three of the RKO Pictures films are available to watch for free on iPlayer. Now is your chance to rediscover (or discover) cinematic gems like Citizen Kane, King Kong, Top Hat and Bringing Up Baby to name just a few.

The selection of films from the 30s, 40s and 50s feature some of Hollywood's biggest stars including Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn.

The addition of the RKO Pictures films comes shortly after the return of many much-loved boxsets to iPlayer, including Dracula, Taboo, Peter Kay’s Car Share, My Family and Mystery Road.

Speaking about the news, Controller of BBC iPlayer Dan McGolpin said: "It’s really exciting to bring this fantastic selection of classic movies from RKO Pictures to viewers on BBC iPlayer. Many people can now discover these inspiring pieces of cinema for the first time and will see some of Hollywood’s finest performances from its best loved stars."
