Icons channeling icons.
As pop-culture lovers far and wide prepare to break out their blonde hair extensions and striped bikini tops to channel Christina Aguilera’s famous “Dirrty” look for Halloween tonight, the Y2K pop princess herself just proved that she, too, is all about pulling inspiration from iconic women in music for Halloween by dressing up as one of the greatest performers of all time: Cher.
On Monday, Aguilera shared an internet-breaking video on her Instagram account where she fully embodied Cher from head to toe. In the clip, the singer started with her back facing the camera before turning around to reveal a custom chain-covered black bodysuit paired with a gigantic belt and fishnet tights. Christina added silver hoop earrings, patent leather pumps, and (at one point) a cropped leather jacket to her Cher-inspired ‘fit, and she finished it off by sporting a curly, dark brown wig and a gray smoky eye.
Beyond just transforming into Cher physically, Aguilera also decided to adopt her persona in the clip by reenacting a scene from their 2010 film Burlesque. Utilizing an audio clip from the movie, Christina kept her back turned while her character, Ali, asked which song Cher’s character, Tess, wanted to see.
“Wagon Wheel Watusi,” Christina mouthed, lip-syncing along to Tess’s response.
While the pop star captioned her original video with nothing but “Tess & Ali 4EVER 🤍♾️🤍,” she later followed it up by sharing a heartfelt tribute to the “legend” alongside additional photos from the shoot.
“On my favorite day of the year it's only right to turn back time and tribute the OG trailblazer @cher,” she captioned the post, which saw her posing as Cher in a bedazzled black I.AM.GIA catsuit and a leather jacket. “Cher's message through her music and style has left a permanent mark on the world and to this day, I still can't believe I had the opportunity to work with such a legend!!!! No one could ever fill the shoes of the great & powerful Cher. The love and respect I have for you is endless 🖤⚓️”
