Model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen has opened up about the poignant reason she and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, became friends. Speaking about the friendship during an interview on Watch What Happens Live, she was keen to defend the Duchess from nay-sayers too, describing her as "wonderful and so kind".

Explaining that the two bonded over their sad shared experience of baby loss (Chrissy heartbreakingly lost her son, Jack, at twenty weeks last autumn and Meghan candidly wrote about having a miscarriage in an essay published back in November), Chrissy said that Meghan had reached out to her after hearing her story.

"She’s been so kind to me ever since we connected on. She had written me about baby Jack and loss, but yeah," Chrissy said. "She is really wonderful and so kind, and just as kind as everyone says she is, and that’s why you look at everything and are like 'My god, what is absolutely wrong with people where they have to make this person out to be so malicious or so crazy when it’s just as simple as them being as kind as everybody says they are?'"

Chrissy also added that she watched Meghan and her husband Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey too, during which the Duke and Duchess alleged that there were inappropriate remarks made about the colour of their son Archie's skin tone by members of the Royal Family, along with issues with security. Meghan also said her pleas for help with her mental health were brushed off.

"I think when I ended up watching it, it was like 'holy sh*t, this is big', but I also waited a long time to watch it," said Chrissy. "I had already heard so much about it by the time that I got to it... but yeah. It is very eye-opening."

Prior to the Oprah interview, Chrissy also tweeted in defence of Meghan (who at the time was experiencing increased public attention, not all of it warranted or kind) writing, "This Meghan Markle sh*t is hitting too close to home for me. These people won’t stop until she miscarries. F*cking stop it."

Whilst the root of their friendship is an incredibly sad one, we're so pleased to hear that both Chrissy and Meghan have found support in one another.
