Was Chrissy Teigen actually asleep at the Oscars or was she faking it to make an important point?

We’ve all been there. You’re at a work awards do, you were up all night with the baby, you’re in a nice comfy seat, in a nice warm room, if only you could rest your eyes for a couple of seconds…no one will know.

Unless of course, the work do you’re attending isn’t just any work do, but the Oscars and your quick disco nap was captured on camera for all the world to see.

That’s exactly the scenario model and presenter Chrissy Teigen found herself in after cameras caught her snoozing on husband John Legend’s shoulder at the 2017 Oscars.

The 31-year-old new mum sent social media into meltdown last night after appearing to take a quick nap as Casey Affleck was giving his acceptance speech.

The actor was on stage accepting the award for Best Actor for ‘Manchester by the Sea’ when the camera panned across to the star-studded audience, where Chrissy could be seen ‘resting her eyes’.

And Twitter couldn’t help but point it out.

“Can we please soak in the gem that is ‪@chrissyteigen. Only she can pull off sleeping at the ‪#Oscars,” wrote one user.

“@chrissyteigen‪ is my hero for napping during the #Oscars,” added another.

“Chrissy Teigen asleep on John Legends shoulder is me right now,” one woman sympathised.

And that’s the point, no matter if you’re at an over-running yawn-fest lecture, or a ritzy A-list event, a new mum has gotta take the zeds when she sees an opportunity.

But there’s another theory currently doing the Internet rounds that Chrissy wasn’t in fact snatching some sleep, but faking the fact she’d nodded off to make an important point. For the fact that she seemed to be dozing during Casey Affleck’s award acceptance could maybe have been a subtle protest about the fact that the Oscar winning actor currently has two sexual harassment suits filed against him.

Brie Larson who had to actually hand over the Oscar to Casey Affleck certainly seemed to be somewhat stoney faced as she read out his name with a fixed-smile. And Denzel Washington, who was nominated alongside Affleck for his role in Fences, didn’t seem to be exactly thrilled by the result either.

So, could the Sports Illustrated model in fact have been subtly throwing shade at the decision to award Casey an Oscar despite his alleged ungentlemanly behaviour off screen? Or did she just see an opening for a quick mama bear nap and took it? Either way we can’t help but love her for it.
