Love Island’s Chris Hughes is getting candid about his split from Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson. The couple started dating in early 2019, and the pair’s relationship only seemed to be growing in strength until their surprise split in April just as the country went into lockdown.

Opening up about the break up, Chris has confessed that it was the first time he’d ever been heartbroken. "It was tough and when everyone’s like, time’s a healer, you don’t believe it when you’re in the moment," Chris, 27, told Vicky Pattison on her podcast The Secret To.

"I don’t think I’ve ever felt heartbroken or anything. And then a couple of weeks down the line, you start thinking about it less and less. And the next thing, you’re good as gold," he went on.

The Love Island star said it helped to open up to people, including his manager, rather than bottle everything up.

"It’s good to talk to people like that, you’re the same as well, life experience," he explained. "People get it and it reflects on you and next minute you feel right as rain."

Chris also spoke to Vicky about dating again, saying he’s now "useless with women" because of lockdown.

"I feel like completely useless with women! Not useless! But this whole lockdown takes you a step back. I feel like I’ve been living through the stone ages where…"

Vicky jumped in, joking, "You’ve been writing women letters and that?"

"I do that anyway! Haha! No, it’s one of them things," Chris told her. "This lockdown feels like it’s gone on for so long. I’ll be alright, I’ll get straight back into it."

Meanwhile, sources recently claimed Jesy and Our Girl actor Sean Sager have "hit it off" as fans spotted they’d been flirting on Instagram - but went on to say they’re just friends.

According to an insider, "They’ve got the same sense of humour and he’s been making her smile. He’s told his mates he thinks she’s really hot and fun to be with."

The source continued, "Their special bond has cheered him up too, as all his acting work had been put on hold due to coronavirus. So hanging out with Jesy has made him really happy again. But Jesy has insisted he’s just a mate to her."

Jesy and Chris were first linked in January 2019 before making their relationship Instagram official two months later.
