Chris Hughes shows support for Jesy Nelson's new show on Instagram

Love Island's Chris Hughes and Jesy Nelson from Little Mix were the power couple we never saw coming, who shared a lot of insights into their relationship on Instagram, and have sadly since split up.

If you're wondering where it all began (and, er, how it all ended), here's a look back at how the couple first started dating, and the milestones since - starting with the latest update.

27 September 2020 - Chris shows his support for ex-girlfriend Jesy on Instagram by sharing a Story of her new talent show, Little Mix: The Search. "Sick show this", he wrote, before adding the official hashtag to his 2.1million followers.

This comes as Chris recently opened up to Mail Online about how he's dedicated to continuing to support Jesy, even if they are just friends. "Obviously we supported each other when we were together," he explained.

"I still support her now with things, whether I do that publicly or not, I still do support her anyway."

Here's a detailed timeline of the rest of their relationship, from the very beginning...

16 January 2019 - Chris and Jesy are first spotted on a date, "enjoying a night mixing cocktails together" at Harry Potter themed bar The Cauldron, London. A source told MailOnline: "This was a first date for Chris and Jesy. Someone slid into the other's Instagram DMs."

21 January 2019 - Pap pictures emerge from their date a week earlier which show Chris and Jesy snogging in a kebab shop in Elephant & Castle, London. A source tells The Sun they were all over each other, commenting, "They couldn't keep their mitts off one another.

"They kept pausing mid-sentence to snog, and were really affectionate. It may be early days but there's definitely a real spark."

22 January 2019 - Chris is coy when asked about his blossoming romance with Jesy, refusing to confirm or deny whether he's still single at the National Television Awards.

"It’s a tough one," he told The Sun. "I’m just enjoying what I’m doing. There’s no updates, nothing you haven’t seen. I’m just happy with myself at the minute."

6 February 2019 - Jesy reportedly calls time on their short romance, due to her desire to be single and Little Mix's hectic schedule.

"Chris has been upset by the break up," sources told The Sun. "But Jesy has explained that she needs to protect herself and her career, and taking their romance any further was proving a massive risk. Out of nowhere their relationship became public and they were photographed snogging. Some of Jesy’s pals are asking how the paparazzi knew they were there. For now she’s going to enjoy being single until the right man comes along."

1 March 2019 - But wait! Did the break up really happen? Apparently not, because Jesy and Chris both just made their relationship Instagram official, sharing Stories from the airport on the way back from a mini-break.

The pair flew to Dublin together, and as well as sharing a glimpse at their breakfast in bed set up, Jesy posted a cosy little video of Chris's chin on her head, while he shared a selfie of them together.

2 March 2019 - Chris makes things Instagram grid official with a kissing snap from an escape room. "The only inmate I’ve ever needed 🧡," he wrote to his two million followers.

Jesy later shares a similar picture of the pair together with an orange heart emoji.

10 March 2019 - Chris shares yet another sultry snap of Jesy on the grid:

17 March 2019 - Chris makes his debut on Jesy's Instagram grid, where she shares a selfie of them together with the caption, "Sundays with this one ❤️"

19 March 2019 - Jesy surprises Chris with a trip to the theatre to see Only Fools And Horses, and he takes to Instagram to thank her - while revealing his adorable nick name for her.

"Date night with my toothpick 😆 She took me on a surprise trip to see Only Fools and Horses 👏🏻🖤", he wrote to his two million followers. Adorable!

9 April 2019 - Chris and Jesy's relationship is still going strong, with the pair regularly posting Instagram Stories of them hanging out and being silly. Chris also shared a photo of them in Wicklow Mountains, Dublin, on his grid, along with the caption, "Somewhere in the Wicklow Mountains 🌲"

7th June 2019 - Jesy and Chris fly to America for a holiday, sharing a number of selfies from the airport. "Off on holiday, with my best friend 🖤✈️ Miss JH," Chris captioned one of them, while Jesy added, "My adventure buddy ✈️❤️"

Jesy later shared a snap of the pair at Happy Place in Las Vegas, a massive pop-up experience filled with installations and immersive rooms, such as this one that makes it look like you're upside down. "This is what we do in our spare time," she wrote to her 5.2 million followers.

14 June 2019 - Chris Hughes shared the cutest birthday message to Jesy Nelson to celebrate the singer turning 28, and it's enough to make you weep. "Happy birthday to a best friend, my better half and the most caring person I could have wished to meet," he wrote, along with a gallery of four photos of them together. "Every day is better now. The fact I love you when I’m hungry says it all. The core to my 🍏... have the best day and keep on shining, you deserve the world 🌍🖤 x"

6 September 2019 - In the fourth episode of MTV’s Geordie OGs, Chris tells friend Gaz Beadle that he plans to have babies with Jesy very soon.

He reveals that once he proposes to Jesy, he wants to be married within the next two months. When Gaz then brings up the topic of babies, he predicts "I reckon in about a year and a half".

25 September 2019 - Chris, 26, reveals he and Jesy, 28, are already speaking about marriage, and have plans to settle down soon. "We both want to get ­married," he told The Sun. "We found each other and we have endless respect for each other. I think that’s why our relationship works.

"We’re proper family people. We love each other’s family. I’m ready to settle down and I think she is."

Speaking of the kind of ceremony they might have, Chris hinted at a big UK-based affair, adding, "I'm traditional – I like a nice church wedding and I think Jesy is open to that too. I like traditional things. I wouldn't get married abroad. No, that's not for me."

7 October 2019 - Chris joins Jesy in Little Mix as he stands in for Jade Thirlwall who is too ill to rehearse for the girls' upcoming show. He shared a video of him rehearsing with Jesy, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards.

He also shared a photo with the caption, "Dreams do come true."

So damn cute.

15 October 2019

Chris Hughes opens up about how heartbreaking it was to watch Jesy Nelson's battle with trolling, as he discusses her BBC documentary Odd One Out, and how she deserves nothing but happiness.

"It broke my heart," he commented in an interview with Happiful magazine. "It was difficult to watch. Just seeing all the things she has been through and overcome, she deserves every bit of happiness now.'

Chris Hughes has admitted it was "love at first sight" when he went on his first date with Jesy Nelson. Chris was speaking to reporters on the red carpet at an awards event when he was quizzed about their romance. "I’ve always been one for love and I'm very loved up. It's the happiest I've ever been. I'm loving it, I love life," the Love Island star sweetly continued to MailOnline.

He also revealed there aren’t any plans for babies just yet, telling the Metro: "We’ve got to get a house first! That would be the first step, then we’ll just see what happens from there. We haven’t planned anything yet so we’re just enjoying life at the minute and seeing where it goes."

Chris and Jesy don't want anyone to forget they're the cutest couple around. Most recently, the Love Island og posted a sickly sweet kissing selfie with Jesy on his Instagram grid for his two million followers to enjoy.

"Best form of therapy is laughter 😁" he wrote, in a post which has since had 153k likes and 375 comments. Adorable.

12 November 2019

Chris broke down in tears on ITV daytime show This Morning as he praised his "strong" girlfriend. The Love Island star was discussing the singer's documentary Odd One Out with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield when he became emotional and started to cry.

"She was completely overwhelmed. She rang me bless her 10 minutes after it aired. She was so overwhelmed, she just broke down on the phone to me. She's a strong girl now."

Chris added: "I get so emotional when I talk about her."

Writing on their respective socials last night, the Love Island star called the Little Mix singer his "future wife" while Jesy called him her "future husband".

"Night everyone feeling very blessed for everything I have in life! Friends, family my future wife," he wrote. "Remember you only get one life so live it to the fullest and be the BEST version of YOU!!! I’ve tried to learn something new everyday and today I learned how to tap dance."

This sweet post prompted a fan to ask if he’d proposed yet, to which he replied: "No. Just happy." Meanwhile, Jesy had written on Instagram: "Happy weekend everyone... Feeling so blessed right now. Couldn't be happier; cuddles with Reggie and Oscar and my future husband makes me so happy. Keep being kind, because it pays off, and costs nothing. Love you all. Night everyone feeling very blessed for everything I have in life!"

16 January 2020 - Jesy Nelson and Chris Hughes celebrate their one year anniversary with a date at London's Moonshine Saloon - and some adorable Instagram posts. In his, Chris wrote:

March 2019 - Jesy opens up to Cosmopolitan UK in Little Mix's cover interview about her boyfriend, commenting, "He’s just a very positive person. Chris is in a world of his own. He’s not normal. Everyone who meets him says, ‘I’ve never met anyone like him.’ It’s cute," she revealed.

"I think, ‘I’d love to be in your head.’ There [are] no cares or worries. He’s just in Chris land.”

April 2019 - News breaks that Chris and Jesy have split up, and have been isolating separately due to coronavirus.

"Jesy and Chris split up a couple of weeks ago. It was all very amicable and they're still really good friends," a source told The Sun Online. "Jesy rang Chris and led the conversation about their relationship and both agreed that it felt like it had run its course - they're both absolutely fine."

April 28, 2019 - Chris says his "life was a sh*tstorm" when Jesy broke up with him. In since deleted tweets, Chris wrote, "I closed my Twitter for a week cus [sic] my life was a s**t storm and now I’ve lost 500k followers lol."

A new report also claimed Chris actually isn't keen for this to be the end - and is pretty upset that Jesy ended things over the phone. "Chris is absolutely convinced that he is going to be getting back with Jesy just as soon as isolation ends and they can be together again," another source told The Sun.

5 May 2020 - Jesy deletes all traces of Chris from her Instagram account, and unfollows him on social media. Making the split crystal clear, the Little Mix member has culled every photo of Chris from her account, and rid her newsfeeds of his updates, making a reconciliation unlikely. Damn.

31 July 2020 - Chris says he was left heartbroken from the split, suggesting he didn't see it coming. "It was tough and when everyone’s like, time’s a healer, you don’t believe it when you’re in the moment," Chris, 27, said on podcast The Secret To. "I don’t think I’ve ever felt heartbroken or anything [before]. And then a couple of weeks down the line, you start thinking about it less and less. And the next thing, you’re good as gold."

25 September 2020 - A clip from Chris's documentary, Me, My Brother and Our Balls, which was filmed during his relationship with Jesy, reveals she wanted to be with him forever.

"Chris is a very confident person but he does worry about a lot of things, he gets a lot of anxiety and does stress about things and I think this is one thing that plays on his mind a lot," the Little Mix singer said in the doco.

"I just want to be with Chris for the rest of my life, he’s the one that makes me happy – whether we had kids or not if won’t affect anything. All I can do is just be there for him as someone that loves him, just keep an eye on him and hopefully it will be alright."
