For his fourth solo Thor movie, Chris Hemsworth got into even bigger, badder shape than ever before, packing on so much muscle that his stunt double, Bobby Holland Hanton, actually struggled to keep up with his Asgardian gains. This seemed par for the course in the Marvel universe, where each new movie is more bombastic than the last and actor's physiques undergo ever more dramatic transformations, but could also be explained by the fact that this latest instalment in the Thor franchise featured Hemsworth's first nude scene.
And while Hemsworth's butt might have stolen the show during that Omnipotent City sequence—squats must definitely have been a part of his movie prep—he has also been showing off his bicep gains at every opportunity. And he's just done it again, in a behind-the-scenes throwback photo taken on the set of Love and Thunder.
"People always ask me for training advice and I’ve learnt it’s easier to show them rather than tell them," he wrote in the caption for the image, where he has Marvel's wig maestro, hair stylist Luca Vannella, in a headlock. "Here I’m demonstrating one of my favourite exercises," he added. "It’s called crack the nut."
But Hemsworth isn't the only actor in Thor: Love and Thunder who put in the work on arm day. When Natalie Portman was invited to return to the franchise as Dr. Jane Foster, she was challenged to get "as big as possible" by Taika Waititi so she could embark on her own superhero story. And she took the assignment very seriously, training every day for almost a year in order to play the Mighty Thor, impressing Hemsworth with her "otherworldly" transformation.
