Think of Chloe Moretz and what comes to mind? The badass child star from Kick Ass, the super cool fashionista that's permanently on the FROW, the outspoken gun control activist? Probably. The cystic acne sufferer? Not so much.

But it's true. The 21-year-old actress recently spoke out about her struggle with acne and the drastic effect it had on her self confidence.

Marking a major move against outdated and totally unrelatable beauty campaigns that are heavily photoshopped and edited, Moretz is the latest celeb to star in skincare brand SK-II's #bareskinproject photo series. Think no snazzy lighting, no make-up and no post-shoot retouching aka most celebs' nightmare.

'It's always a scary idea - the thought of being bare skinned in a campaign like that,' she told Teen Vogue. 'It's something that I had never thought would be possible.'

Why? Because contrary to our assumption that all of Hollywood were blessed with flawless skin, the American actress actually suffers from cystic acne.

'I think what people don't talk about is the psychological element to having skin problems, and that was the hardest thing for me. It strips your self-confidence in a lot of ways; you know you can't hide from it at all, and you lose a little piece of yourself,' Moretz revealed to Teen Vogue.

'When I was younger, I lost a piece of myself by being so self-obsessed with my skin blemishes or what people thought about them. As I grew up, I realised that half the battle was myself, and my own self-infliction of what I thought "beauty" and “perfect” was. But then, you realise there's no such thing as perfect, and your skin will go through ups and downs. All you can do is try and be as self-accepting as possible.'

Amen to that sister.

So what are Chloe's secrets to nabbing that elusive clear skin?

'Keep it as simple as possible. I stopped using all these different products, and I kind of broke it all down to doing absolutely nothing - just using water, olive oil and honey.

'The only thing I've integrated into my skin routine is the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, because of the simplicity of it. I won't put anything on my skin that I can't pronounce.'

An edible skincare routine and acne appreciation? Our woman crush just got a whole lot worse.
