China Releases Timelapse Video of Lunar Probe Landing on Moon's Surface

China’s Chang’e-5 spacecraft successfully landed on the moon on December 1, according to state media. The mission was planned to return the first lunar samples to earth since 1976.

CGTN reported that the probe had landed in an area of the moon that had never before been visited: the Oceanus Procellarum or Ocean of Storms.

The probe is expected to spend a few days on the lunar surface before returning to earth with approximately 2kg of samples, landing in Inner Mongolia. Credit: China National Space Administration via Storyful
