Lady Gaga’s male alter ego Jo Calderone has attended several red-carpet events in the past. In an interview with British Vogue magazine, the ‘Born This Way’ singer talked about the character and how it represents the men in her life. She said: “At this time I was actually going through a breakup, so I actually created this character that was my boyfriend. I inhabited this character, Jo Calderone, so it was representative of relationship, representative of my father as well.” - 3/11

Singer Miley Cyrus told Kevin Hart that the concept behind her famous show ‘Hannah Montana’, about a girl who finds fame as teenage pop singer by adopting a secret identity, has shaped her career in the spotlight. In a separate interview on Spotify’s podcast ‘Rock This with Allison Hagendorf’, she said: “I never created a character where it wasn’t me, but I was aware of how people saw me, and I maybe played into it a little bit.” - 4/11

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the ‘Single Ladies' singer and former Destiny’s Child band member elaborated on Sasha’s personality. She said: “She doesn’t do interviews, she only performs. The ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker is arguably the queen of alter egos as she has adopted several different characters. One of the most famous ones is Roman Zolanski, a homosexual man who lives in Nicki’s body and who dares to say everything the rapper is afraid of. Then we have Martha Zolanski, Roman’s mother, who usually tries to change her son’s disrespectful behaviour. Sir Paul McCartney formed an experimental band called The Fireman in 1993 and adopted the act an alter ego. In an interview with NPR, the Beatles icon explained how the persona helped him feel free. He said: "The pseudonym allows you to be anyone you want to be.” - 9/11

Rapper Marshall Mathers has an alter ego named Slim Shady who, according to Time magazine, is the lunatic doppelgänger of his stage persona Eminem. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the ‘My Name Is’ singer revealed that Slim Shady comes from a very dark place, but had helped him become successful in the music industry. The star also revealed Slim Shady was born when he was on the toilet. He said: “Boom, the name hit me, and right away I thought of all these words to rhyme with it. So I wiped my a**, got up off the pot, and went and called everybody I knew.” - 11/11

‘Ted’ star Mark Wahlberg had an alter ego, rapper Marky Mark, during his teenage years. While the character has stayed in the past, the movie star told Ellen DeGeneres that he would consider bringing him back “under the right circumstances.” However, it might never happen as Wahlberg also revealed that his children are not big fans of Marky, explaining: "They've seen videos of me performing and they're mortified."
