A suspected hit and run at the A405 junction with Horseshoe Lane left a child in need of hospital treatment.

Hertfordshire Constabulary closed the road between the Hollywood Bowl roundabout and Horseshoe Lane after being called to reports of a crash at around 3.10pm today (March 24).

A car and a child were reportedly involved, with the child taken to hospital in an ambulance for treatment and to be assessed.

Officers remained at the scene in order to establish the circumstances around what happened.

It appears the vehicle involved left the scene before police arrived, but this has not been confirmed.

Several locals who heard about the crash described the junction with Horseshoe Lane as “dangerous” and shared their concern for the pedestrian.

The closures had apparently caused “gridlock” traffic near the junction by around 3.30pm and motorists warned others to avoid the area while they were in place.

The traffic appeared to have mostly cleared by 4pm.

Update

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed a rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene after it was called with reports that a child had been hit by a car at 3.04pm.

The child was taken to Watford General Hospital for treatment for a lower limb injury.
