Cheryl made a hilarious dig at fellow Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle as the band took to the stage in Belfast on Monday, 20 May as part of their ongoing reunion tour.

Having spent 11 years apart, the band have recently embarked on their comeback tour which saw them perform together for the first time in over a decade earlier this month.

But besides impressing concert goers with their incredible vocals and choreography, the group have wowed fans with their interactions between songs – with Cheryl leaving fans in Belfast in hysterics after referring to one of Nadine’s most iconic TV moments.

As the 40 year old introduced herself to the crowd, the Fight For This Love singer made a light-hearted reference to Nadine’s time on Irish Popstars where she was caught lying on camera about her age.

“We had to come to Ireland anyway…” Cheryl, who recently suffered a wardrobe malfunction, began. “You know why? To make sure Nadine remembered her passport.”

Cheryl’s joke refers to how Nadine, now 38, famously lied about being older than she was in order to secure a place on Irish Popstars in 2001. Despite being just 16 when she entered the show, requirements state that all contestants needed to be 18 or older.

“I’m Nadine Coyle. I’m from Lark Hill in Derry. Date of birth 15th of the sixth 1985, making me a Gemini,” she told the camera. “And… what date of birth did I say there?”

But when asked if she could produce her passport to corroborate her alleged date of birth, Nadine coincidentally couldn’t find any documentation – something which led to her having to leave the competition.

The on-stage banter comes after Girls Aloud told their fans that the show would be a “celebration of Sarah”. Revealing the exciting news of their comeback on Instagram in November 2023, the post said: “We’re so excited to announce that we will be touring the UK & Ireland in May and June 2024.

“A celebration of Sarah, our music and our incredible fans. We can’t wait to sing and dance with you all once again – Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine & Nicola.”

Meanwhile, speaking to British Vogue last November, Kimberley Walsh paid tribute to their beloved late bandmate. “I think we channelled our grief into all the fundraising we did for The Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal and that helped us a lot.

“And as tough as it will be, we want to give Sarah her moment on this tour. We need it. The fans need it. She needs it,” she said.
